June '06 Unify International to Measure Standard Pacific Homes
Santa Ana, CA (June 16, 2006) -- As the real estate market softens
and costs soar, home building companies and their trade contractors
are looking for innovative ways to identify waste within their
operations, while maintaining superior construction practices.
“Making an investment in operational improvement will result
in improved financial results and better customer experiences,” said
Steve McGee, a national improvement expert who is President of
Unify International, a consulting firm specializing in the home
building industry.
Standard Pacific, one of the nation’s most successful homebuilding
companies, has retained Unify International to conduct a Benchmark
Audit Surveys (BAS) for its divisions throughout the United States. “Standard
Pacific has always looked for ways to make process improvements
at a local level, and are now utilizing the talent from all of
our divisions to discover best practices at a national level. We
look forward to working with Unify International to garner important
data and define our longer-term strategies,” said Scott Hearty,
Vice President of Purchasing for Standard Pacific.
“Most company leaders are so busy dealing with the day to
day issues that they won’t step back to see the big picture,
to learn what aspects of the company are firing on all cylinders
and which ones need to be re-tooled,” said McGee. “Companies
who embrace proper analysis and follow through by investing in
high impact solutions for measurable returns, will reap the rewards,” said
McGee. “In today’s tougher market, builders must find
protect margins by eliminating waste, not by just cutting jobs
and saddling the existing inefficiencies on remaining staff.”
According to Hearty, “Through using Unify as the third party
to conduct review, our people not only gives us more candid insights,
but they also feel motivated by the way Unify International helps
them to understand the need for continuous improvement.”
The Benchmark Audit Survey will enable Standard Pacific to analyze
how well each of their systems operate and identify ways to reduce
costs for the builder and its trade contractors, while improving
the quality of the home for the buyer. The resulting strategic
recommendations will provide realist solutions to tangibly reduce
costs while maintaining the integrity of the operations.
